Cheapest hybrid cars in Chile 2026: list prices and what type of hybrid each one is

The cheapest hybrid car on sale in Chile starts at CLP 13,690,000: the Suzuki Dzire, a mild hybrid. The cheapest full hybrid, which can drive short stretches on the electric motor alone, is the MG 3 Hybrid+, from CLP 16,990,000. And the lowest-priced plug-in hybrid is the Changan EADO PHEV, from CLP 22,990,000. These are list prices compiled by Autofact in its 2026 hybrid car guide, reviewed on October 17, 2026.

But not every car labelled hybrid is the same. In this guide we rank the cheapest models by type of hybrid system, because the fuel-use gap between a mild hybrid and a full hybrid is large. If you are weighing a fully electric car, compare with our list of electric car prices in Chile 2026.

Mild hybrid, full hybrid or plug-in: the types on sale

  • Mild hybrid (MHEV): a small 12- or 48-volt electric motor helps the gasoline engine when pulling away and accelerating, and recovers energy when braking. It cannot move the car on electricity alone. It saves little fuel but is the cheapest.
  • Full hybrid (HEV): a larger battery that charges itself when braking and from the engine. It can drive short stretches in electric mode, especially in the city. It is not plugged in.
  • Plug-in hybrid (PHEV): a large battery charged from a socket, allowing dozens of kilometres on electricity alone before using gasoline.
  • Range extender (REEV): the combustion engine works as a generator and the wheels are always driven by the electric motor.

Chile's National Automotive Association (ANAC) counts all these types as zero and low-emission vehicles, together with fully electric cars.

Ranking of the cheapest hybrid cars in Chile 2026

The table brings together the lowest-priced hybrid models according to Autofact's guide. The type of hybrid system follows the manufacturer's naming.

9Peugeot 2008 MHEVMild hybrid (MHEV)CLP 23,190,000
10Haval Jolion HEVFull hybrid (HEV)CLP 24,290,000

Two details to watch. First, these are list prices: dealers often offer financing bonuses that lower the final price, so compare the price with and without credit. Second, the same Autofact guide shows the Swift Hybrid at CLP 14,390,000 in one section and CLP 14,690,000 in its summary table; we use the lower figure and recommend confirming it with the brand.

The cheapest full hybrid (HEV) in Chile

If the goal is to use less gasoline in the city, the type that matters is the full hybrid. In that segment, 2026 list prices are:

Full hybrid (HEV)BodyList price from
MG 3 Hybrid+HatchbackCLP 16,990,000
MG ZS HEVSUVCLP 20,990,000
Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Max HEVSUVCLP 20,990,000

Haval H6 HEVSUVCLP 27,990,000
Toyota Corolla Cross HybridSUVCLP 28,159,830
Kia Niro (hybrid version)SUVCLP 29,990,000

Toyota, the brand that popularized the technology with the Prius, has three full hybrids under CLP 30 million. Chinese brands compete on price instead: the MG 3 and MG ZS open the segment. We analyse the weight of Chinese brands in Chile's electrified market in Chinese electric cars in Chile.

The cheapest plug-in hybrids (PHEV)

  • Changan EADO PHEV: from CLP 22,990,000.
  • Jaecoo 7 SHS: from CLP 26,990,000.
  • Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max PHEV: from CLP 26,990,000.
  • BYD Song Pro: from CLP 28,990,000.
  • Jetour T1 PHEV: from CLP 29,990,000.
  • Chery Tiggo 9 Pro Max PHEV: from CLP 32,990,000.
  • Cupra Formentor PHEV: from CLP 35,490,000.
  • BYD Song Plus: from CLP 36,990,000.

A plug-in makes sense if you can charge at home or at work: most daily trips are then done on electricity, which costs far less per kilometre than gasoline, depending on the price per kWh where you live. Without a place to plug in, it works like a heavier hybrid and loses much of its advantage.

How many hybrid cars are sold in Chile

Hybrids are now at the heart of electrification in Chile. Between January and August 2026, 39,769 zero and low-emission vehicles were sold, according to the ANAC report cited by Press Latam. Mild hybrids are the largest group.

TechnologySales January-August 2026 (units)Share of zero and low emission
Mild hybrids (MHEV)16,89742%
Full hybrids and range extenders (HEV + REEV)10,17026%
Fully electric (BEV)6,90217%
Plug-in hybrids (PHEV)4,95512%
Plug-in range extenders (P-REEV)8452%

Plug-ins (electric plus plug-in hybrids) grew strongly, with 12,702 units by August, 143.4% more than a year earlier, but still account for only 6.2% of the new light and medium vehicle market. The fuel price increases of 2026, with diesel up about CLP 400 per litre since July, are pushing more buyers toward hybrids and electric cars.

Which one suits your use

  • Minimum budget: a mild hybrid such as the Dzire or Swift. It saves some gasoline, but its main advantage is price.
  • Lots of city driving and traffic: a full hybrid (HEV). That is where it saves most, because it recovers energy every time it brakes.
  • Home charging and short trips: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which allows everyday driving in electric mode.
  • Frequent long highway trips: the hybrid's advantage shrinks at constant speed; compare with an efficient gasoline car or an electric one.

Before buying, also compare the hybrid battery warranty, maintenance costs and resale value. If the budget allows, check the cheapest electric cars too, because some already compete with full hybrids.

Used hybrids: what they cost

The used market offers full hybrids for less than a new mild hybrid. According to reference prices from Chileautos listings compiled by KmCheck, these are two of the most searched used hybrids:

Used hybridYearsReference price
Toyota Prius C2018-2021CLP 9,500,000 to 13,000,000
Kia Niro Hybrid2021-2023CLP 16,000,000 to 19,000,000

With a used hybrid, check the condition of the traction battery and its service history with the brand. Hybrid batteries usually last many years, but replacing one out of warranty is expensive, so a dealer or specialist workshop report is worth it.

Japanese and Chinese brands: two strategies

The ranking shows two strategies. Suzuki dominates the low end with mild hybrids, which add a small electric system to economical cars. Toyota concentrates the benchmark full hybrids, with technology that has been on the market for more than 25 years. Chinese brands (MG, Chery, Haval, Changan, Jaecoo, BYD) compete with full and plug-in hybrids at lower prices, and have grown most in the plug-in segment.

For buyers, the practical difference is city fuel use: a full hybrid can switch off the gasoline engine in traffic, while a mild hybrid cannot. If most of your kilometres are in the city, paying the difference between an MHEV and an HEV is worth it.

One last tip: before signing, ask for the type-approval fuel consumption sheet for the exact model, which gives urban, highway and combined figures in kilometres per litre. Compare that figure across a full hybrid, a mild hybrid and the gasoline version of the same car: it is the most direct way to know how much fuel you will save each year.
