Thermomix: how much electricity it uses, what it costs in Chilean pesos and its price in Chile (TM7 and TM6)

The Thermomix is a kitchen robot that chops, kneads, steams and heats in a single bowl. Its newest model, the TM7, has a total power of 1,500 W, according to the Thermomix technical sheet: 500 W for the motor and 1,000 W for heating, according to its maker Vorwerk. With electricity at CLP 255.27 per kWh, a 25-minute soup costs at most CLP 106, and three hot recipes a week add up to at most about CLP 1,659 a month.

In the official Thermomix store in Chile, the TM7 cost CLP 1,940,000 and the TM6 CLP 1,597,000 as of 7 November 2026. This guide calculates how much the Thermomix uses for each preparation, what it adds up to each month, how it compares with other kitchen appliances and how the two models sold in Chile differ.

How much electricity a Thermomix uses

The Thermomix has two sources of consumption. The motor, rated at 500 W by Vorwerk, turns the blades from a slow stir up to about 10,700 revolutions per minute in turbo mode. The heating element, at 1,000 W, warms the bottom of the steel bowl. Together they make up the 1,500 W total power stated on the TM7 spec sheet. The TM6 has the same combination of a 500 W motor and 1,000 W heating, according to its manual.

In practice, the Thermomix rarely uses all 1,500 W at once for long. When chopping or kneading, only the motor runs, and only for a few minutes. When cooking, the heater runs at full power until the contents reach the set temperature, then cycles on and off to hold it. That is why the figures in this guide are a ceiling: actual cost is lower.

How much a Thermomix costs per month

Monthly cost depends on how many hot recipes are made. Used only for chopping, grating and kneading for about 5 minutes a day, the ceiling is 1.25 kWh and about CLP 319 a month. With three 30-minute hot recipes a week, plus five minutes of motor each, it reaches at most 6.5 kWh and CLP 1,659. Someone who cooks with it every day can reach CLP 4,148.

1 hot recipe a day (30 a month)16.25 kWhCLP 4,148
2 hot recipes a day (60 a month)32.5 kWhCLP 8,296

Energía Futura calculations: each hot recipe assumes 30 minutes of heating at 1,000 W and 5 minutes of motor at 500 W. Since the thermostat cuts the heater once the temperature is reached, actual cost stays below these ceilings.

Even in daily use, the Thermomix weighs little against a typical home's 180 kWh a month. What really decides the bill is whether it replaces another appliance or adds to it: if it cooks the rice that used to be made in a rice cooker or the soup once heated on an electric hob, consumption moves rather than doubles.

Compared with other kitchen appliances

With 1,000 W of heating, the Thermomix heats with half the power of a 2,000 W electric kettle and less than a third of a 3,500 W portable electric hob like those sold by Falabella. That does not mean it uses less per litre: the energy needed to boil a litre of water is the same, about 0.11 kWh as we calculated in how much electricity an electric kettle uses; the Thermomix just takes longer to deliver it.

Where it can save is in dead time. An electric hob loses heat to the air around the pot, while the TM7 bowl has an insulating cover and its thermostat prevents water from boiling longer than needed. Compared with an electric stove, its energy advantage is temperature control, not power.

Thermomix price in Chile: TM7 and TM6

The Thermomix is sold in Chile through its official online store, which offers a free trial before buying. As of 7 November 2026, the TM7 cost CLP 1,940,000 with free shipping across Chile (except Easter Island) in a promotion valid until 16 November, and the TM6 CLP 1,597,000. The difference is CLP 343,000.

Steaming and slow cooking: what they cost

The Varoma is the steaming tray that sits on top of the bowl. On the TM7 it holds 6.8 litres, 45% more than on the TM6, according to the spec sheet. Its energy advantage is that a single boil serves several dishes: while rice or a sauce cooks in the bowl, vegetables and fish steam above. Half an hour of Varoma costs at most CLP 128; making those three dishes separately in three 30-minute cycles would cost up to CLP 383, three times as much.

Slow cooking, one of the TM7's new modes, is the one that keeps the appliance on longest. If the heater ran at 1,000 W for four hours, the ceiling would be 4 kWh, about CLP 1,021. In practice, once the stew reaches the set temperature the heater only switches on now and then to replace lost heat, and the insulated bowl reduces that loss, so the actual cost is a fraction of that ceiling.

Tips to spend less

  • Put on the lid and measuring cup when the recipe allows: less heat is lost.
  • Steam in layers with the Varoma: the same heat serves two or three dishes.
  • Use just the right temperature: holding 90 °C uses less than boiling at 100 °C.
  • Reuse the hot water in the bowl for the next preparation.
  • Unplug it if you will not use it for days: the internet-connected screen stays on standby.

The Thermomix does not replace the fridge or heating, the appliances that move the bill most. But in a well-run electric kitchen, with the lid on and the right temperature, it can be one of the appliances that uses least per dish.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts does a Thermomix have?

1,500 W of total power: a 500 W motor and 1,000 W of heating, in both the TM7 and the TM6.

How much does a Thermomix cost to make a soup?

At most CLP 106 for a 25-minute soup, at CLP 255.27 per kWh. The actual cost is lower because the thermostat cuts the heat.

How much does a Thermomix cost per month?

Between about CLP 319 if used only for chopping and kneading and about CLP 4,148 for one hot recipe a day, as a ceiling.

How much does slow cooking with a Thermomix cost?

At most about CLP 1,021 for four hours at full power, but the thermostat only switches the heater on intermittently, so the real cost is much lower.

How much does the Thermomix TM7 cost in Chile?

CLP 1,940,000 in the official store as of 7 November 2026. The TM6 cost CLP 1,597,000.
